"And we women are going to lead the way in this new revolution, this new feminist issue. We are literally going to sleep our way to the top, literally." "...I urge you to shut your eyes and discover the great ideas that lie inside us, to shut your engines and discover the power of sleep." - Arianna Huffington I am sleep-deprived...I'm sure many of you are! After a long day at the office (which pays the bills), I come home to my beautiful Mini-Me and start my next shift (which
Over the past 6 months or so, I have managed to drop 30 pounds due to a change in my diet. Also over the past 6 months, I have had several life changes, including moving back to New York City and starting a new job. So, while I have done an excellent job eating right, I have not really gone to the gym on a consistent basis since May 2017 (yikes!). Now that I have my diet under control, I figured I would attempt to get back in the gym this year so I can drop my last 10 pounds.
My little sister Simmy is a dope makeup artist...period! Over the years I have seen her go from dabbling in drug store makeup, to launching her very own company. I am proud. And fortunate that that she is back in the NYC area and able to share with me some great makeup tips. My daily makeup routine is simple: wash, moisturize, light powder foundation, eyeshadow, mascara, lip gloss. It usually takes me about 5 minutes to apply. That was until Simmy showed me the light! Needles
My friends are amazing! They just are! I am so fortunate to be surrounded by some extraordinary girlfriends who do extraordinary things. Doctors, lawyers, bankers, educators...their professions run the gamut. And as of late, many of these women have been stepping out and starting their own businesses. Honestly, they all love their chosen professions, but they are looking to create their own footprints in the business world and chart their own paths. I fully support my girls w
Quick story...back when I was in law school and actively seeking employment after graduation, I decided to attend a networking event sponsored by a local bar association. The networking event, a meet-and-greet happy hour, was scheduled to last for about an hour and a half and was free. Following the happy hour, however, was an awards banquet that cost $150 per person. Being that I was an unemployed law student, the banquet was not an option...the free happy hour would have to
This weekend I had the pleasure of sharing The Tasty Waffle Company with the good people of Brooklyn at Shwick Market's Food Porn Fest. And I had a ball! It was so great to introduce my company and my waffle addiction to the masses. I loved chatting with customers and preparing their waffles. I especially loved the expressions on their faces when they tasted their waffles...the joy! I feel like I did the right thing in betting on myself and starting my company. I feel good! I
One of the many experiences that have shaped me as a person is the four years I spent attending Spelman College. In addition to getting a first-class education, I was blessed to meet and form meaningful relationships with some of the best and the brightest women on this planet...hands down! One of those women is my good friend and Freshman year roommate. She is the PR Queen! And also the founder of The Girl Power Agency, a full-service communications firm created for and ran
One thing I know for sure is that a woman will travel far and wide to get to her hair stylist. It's a fact! Once we find someone to curate our manes just the way we like, we never let him/her go. I am no exception. I have been traveling to Long Island to my hair stylist for almost 10 years. And I'm not talking about Nassau County, which is the closest to New York City. Suffolk County folks! Way down the Southern State Parkway. It doesn't matter to me...Miesha K. is worth it.
